About the project

Poster warning of escaped prisoners from Huntingdon town gaol

The Huntingdon Borough Project is being run by Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies, which is part of Cambridgeshire County Council.

The Project began at the end of 2004. Its primary aim is to catalogue the original historical records of the Borough of Huntingdon to current professional archive standards. Most of the cataloguing has been done, and it is anticipated that the final catalogue will be completed by the end of 2010.

Subsidiary aims of the Project include undertaking a conservation survey of the original records, to repair documents where necessary, to repackage the collection in new archive-quality boxes and folders, and to make digital images of selected documents available online.

Funding for the Project has come from Huntingdon Freemen's Charity and the Huntingdonshire Local History Society.
